BalasHapusBefore starting our initial posting, we would like to say sorry because we just give comment to the first link. We have tried many times to access the second link http://www.educ.utas.edu.au/users/tle/JOURNAL/, but unfortunately it could not be accessed. We just visited the 1st link http://www.tewtjournal.org/. Teaching English with Technology (TEwT) is a website that focuses on using technology in teaching English. In this website there are many journals that is interested in theoretical and practical articles about teaching English with technology, besides that it provides many resources that could be used as assistance in Learning English.
To make it briefly, we divide the content of the Journal of Teaching English with Technology into four parts. The first is about Issues, in this part there are many journals that focused on theoretical and practical articles about teaching English with technology. All of the journals have been reviewed by the editors, so it could be applied without doubt. The second is TEwT resources; there are many things in this part that can help us for using technology in teaching English; such as free TEwT resources, related journals, game-based learning, authoring software, electronic books and etc. The next is about LAMS and Learning Design, they are special issues in TEwT. LAMS stands for Learning Activity Management System, it was developed in Australia. These special issues comprising articles written by internationally renowned experts in the field were also published in paper-back as two books by University of Nicosia Press. The last is Web 2.0 technologies, the content of this part are links that can be used in creating instructional material by using technology. For instance, the links about editing picture and video. These links provide some websites where we can design, edit and share pictures or videos as materials in teaching English.
Ok, the next is about our opinion for this website. This website is useful for English teacher who wants to create their teaching methods by using technology, because in this website there are many journals and articles as theoretical, software and some applications as tools to create instructional materials that is easy to be downloaded. This website also has been organized well, because the journals have been divided based on the published year. But in other side, it can’t be denied that this website is just for teacher who already have background knowledge about technology and have facilities to access it. The other weakness is there are some contents that could not be opened except by the member of this website.

based on the first group's explanation, we can conclude that the web is intentionally designed for increasing teacher's performance through technology. We do support this kind of methods. Imagine guys, for several years later we are going to use any kinds of technology to deliver English material to student. How easy it will. And fortunately, this web provide and guide us to be the one who have the new style in teaching language, through technology.
beside all of the benefits, it also has a stumbling block for those who don't really know how to operate this kind of tools (sophisticated program). yeahh, the fact couldn't be denied. but we believe there will be no way for those who don't seek the way. So, the point is "be mixed with the era".
we also get interested on all related post on the web. in page "the journal of teaching English with technology" we found Game-Based Learning. as some of us could not hold the cursor to click on it, we are shown a game which really guide the gamers to understand English. The game directs us to do something based on English direction. we believe it does support the English learner to get developed.
to sum up this post, we do recommended this web to be applied in teaching phase. but do not forget to know the tool n usage first. that's a great post from first group.

BalasHapusIf we are talking about technology it looks like a challenge for us... why? as we know this is Indonesia we still don't have enough facility to access this any time and any where easily, the simply question how many people could be doing it well? maybe several people say yuhu i like it but we don't know exactly how many people say Ooo.. NO I still confuse ALLAH...hehehe but that's why we exist,,,we have to learn then introduce or to be teller and help people who doesn't know the important announcement. thank you

HapusThank you for your question, Synchronous learning refers to a group of people learning the same things at the same time. Lecture is an example of synchronous learning in a face-to-face environment and with the advent of web conferencing tools, people can learn at the same time in different places as well. For example, use of instant messaging or live chat, video conferencing allow for students and teachers to collaborate and learn in real time.
In the journal of TewT there are some links that we can use to do the synchronous learning in online situation. For example in http://www.bigbluebutton.org/ we can do online teaching in face to face environment.
We can use synchronous learning (online learning) if teacher and student are in a long distance.

A exceptional argument for 1st group, after visited this Blog and I read the first group explanation I say thanks because I got many information and know more how to teach English by technology.and also some additions from friends so make me so FULL info,thanks..Actually,, at the Era Globalization like now teaching English with using technology facilities is very good and suitable unlike the situation like now that ''all powerful''(serba canggih)which is symbol of perfection who make us easy to take something we need.. But all of you, specially for the 1st group, I need more again your opinion about how to teach English at the regions that limitations of technology??? in this case I give you example at the school or university,...maybe the school/university who have comprehensive facilities, it's not problem,it's OK... I granted the learning process is ''go in a good manner''.But... where we know that at Indonesia Specially at our province not all have A technology device,so how we can handle it??Personally MISMAR M need your opinion and solution...THANKS..???

HapusThank you very much for your opinion and your question. Talking about your question about how to teach English with technology in rural area, we think that we have same perception. We have said in our initial posting, one of the weaknesses of TEwT is its just appropriate for teacher who has background knowledge and facilities to acces the technology. So it is quiet difficult to apply TewT in rural area or like what you have said the regions that limitations of technology. Thanks

but it doesn't mean that it can not be practiced at all. there should be cooperation of all institutions that responsible for it such as the government. also, the teacher should join some trainings to improve their understanding of this method. and all villages have to get same chances and facilities to get the method.

generally this is interested to us applying that while teaching, why? because in teaching we need many method and technique, and taech english by technology is the one of various method that we can use.

Teaching English with Technology (TEwT) could be used in every level. Teacher just need to choose the links which is suitable for each level. For instance, for beginner (in this case young learner) we can choose game based learning or make an interesting video for them.
Ok, thank you very much for the first group who have explained about the website. As we know that technology in teaching English is very useful, but based on the first group said that are there some trouble to use it, like the facility and knowledge (relation with technology). I myself don't have any knowledge about technology actually, to be honest I never invite any website as long as I don't have assigment from my teacher. So, my question is how we can use the technology for example this website when we teaching in a village where the facilities is incomplete. And about your video, that's great for me, because I cannot to make like that, so can you tell me how to make the video (heheheheh) ^_^. Thank you.......

It is absolutely a good effort of the first group to present a simple explanation about Teaching English with technology. In the first part, it's explained that there are some theories and practicals of this material. it will be better for the first group to show us how we should apply one of the theory. for example THE "NET GENERATION IN JAPAN:
A SURVEY OF INTERNET BEHAVIOURS OF STUDENTS AGED 13-21". beside talking it theoritically. to consider cultural and character aspect of students in Indonesia, is there any possibility to apply it in Indonesia? and as the candidate of the teacher, what we should do to apply it. because I believe that a concept or theory will be useful when we are able to transfer it in our life. So. teaching English with technology sounds fun and interesting, but we need to consider the cultural and character of student as the subject, the ability of the teacher and support of the government. so that, one simple question that I will ask, How we should integrate that theory to consider the aspect of student's cultural and character in Indonesia ?

The journal is a descriptive research that examines the Japanese context in three areas: 1) Technology ownership, frequency of use, and perceptions of ability; 2) Frequency and type of use of the Internet; 3) Use and perceptions of institution Websites. The objective of this research is to survey the internet behaviors of Japan’s student. So, if we want to apply the survey in Indonesia, we think it is possible.
For your question about How we should integrate that theory to consider the aspect of student's cultural and character in Indonesia? We do apologize because we don’t get your point (what do you mean with “that theory” ?).

Generally, there are two kinds of learning design. They are interaction design and visualizing design. One of them “interaction design) is a learning design focus on interactive lecture especially structured dialogue design. In the case, learning design allows face-to-face lectures by using synchronous learning to share and compare knowledge and personal opinions. The purpose of this design is active participatory learning behavior.
Next, we suggest for using “digital story-telling” for teaching student at junior high school. It is completed with some pictures like comic design. It will be interesting for them. The function of the Journal of TewT is as assistance in language learning in order to achieve the goal of the curriculum in the school, college and university.

Actually we don’t know exactly why this website do not separated them, because we are not the owner of TewT. We just know that this website focused mainly on the use of technology in TESOL (Teaching English To Speakers of Other Languages).
